Service Factory - Modeling Edition (VS2008) Released

It's finally out! They made it just before february clossed on them.

Here are the links to download the binary release and the source code.

The official note on codeplex clearly states they still have to work on extensibility hands-on labs and the Security Guidance package.

I didn't came around to installing the CTP version because I didn't want to mess with my system at this time.

Service Factory - Modeling Edition CTP for VS2008

I just saw a new CTP version of the Service Factory - Modeling Edition was put out for VisualStudio 2008. It can be found here (I didn't test it yet).

I can confirm that the release version of the factory for VS2005 won't work with VS2008. If you have both versions of VS installed side-by-side, the guidance packages will show up in VS2005 but not in VS2008. If I recall propperly the VS2008 release version is expected sometime in February.

By the way, in the side-by-side scenario described I even found a problem when using it in VS2005: I'm unable to change the datatype of members by using the Properties window. I get "Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt." Using the available work-around was good for me.

I don't know of any fix for this issue. My guess is they are bedding on getting every body on vs2008 as soon as possible.

Service Factory : Modeling Edition released... almost

They have also been announcing that one both at the SOA & BPM Conference 2007 and at TechEd 2007 Europe. They had it already for some weeks but they were waiting for some management sing-off.

Well it's finally here. The bits, source code and documentation can be downloaded here. That’s great, right?

But wait a minute. Don't you ask yourself why they waited so long to release? My guess is they where trying to get it to work with VisualStudio 2008. What? You didn't know? It's a fact; it won't work on VisualStudio 2008 when it comes out.

Don Smith confirmed it himself at TechEd 2007. They will have to make some changes to make that happen. They said the official target for this is somewhere around February 2008. It seems though that pressure is on to have it like a month earlier.

Crazy enough, it's already been ported to Rosario (code name for VisualStudio 10). It is actually pre-installed on the Rosario VPC that can be downloaded as part of the community preview program. Great planning one could say.
